@ Social Soups in Residence at Villa Durazzo Bombrini from April 05–18, 2018
Fabio Tremonte spent time by walking through the Genoa and investigating the flow of people and the food specialties. Questions about history of the migration and the food import -both arriving since centuries in the port of Genoa, result in two projects which are connected with each other.
1.) Archeology of Food
This project comes with a publication, partly as fiction and partly as documentation, about the changes of the historical Genoese food and food preparation caused through the import of herbs, crops, spices deriving from overseas conquests, explorations, and trades. This research and project highlight the importance of the encounter of different cultures providing a lively and strong social interaction. The openness for a culinary encounter reflects the openness for the “other” and the cultural diversity. This project invites to explore the past in order to rethink the possibilities of today’s immigration and alternative social cohesions.

2) DERIVA CULINARIA [Genoa]
This project is part of the participatory project Deriva Culinaria, in which time quality, dialogue, encounter aren put in the focus. With the preparation of cultural typical food and the consumption by invited people which discuss social and historical aspects around the prepared food, is opened a space of reflection and awareness of possible social changes.
Therefore, are invited in a first step three cooks, working and living in Genoa and representing the today’s communities: one Ecuadorian, one Senegalese and one Genoese cook discuss a recipe which comprises the typical ingredients and procedure of their country and location. Together they will cook this elaborated recipe for invited people in a second step. During the preparation and consumption will be discussed issues and aspects around this recipe.
DERIVA CULINARIA [Genoa] will be documented and shared on diverse media.
The Brazilian artist and educator Fàbio Tremonte lives and works in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Art enables him to wander through various areas of human knowledge and allows him free experimentation: in the morning being a cook, in the afternoon an anthropologist, in the night a DJ. Traversing these paths, he has maintained some project of long duration: Escola da Floresta, Deriva Culinária, Coentro Radical and Valderramas_Project. Furthermore, he is with Maria Eugenia Cordero e Nicolás Rey one of the organizers of the artist residency Residencia Artistica Barda del Desierto in Argentinian Patagonia. He is currently writing projects in Portunhol.
